Cache County prosecutors were able to charge 21-year-old Alex Whipple in the murder of five-year-old Elizabeth Shelley before they found her body thanks to new technology.

Rapid DNA machines allowed investigators to test genetic material for the suspect and victim right at the crime scene.

Police found a knife, a PVC pipe, a teal skirt and beer can during the search.

According to court documents, DNA found on those items belonged to the suspect and victim.
