Utah's fire departments and rescue organizations are warning those trying to enjoy the outdoors to stay away from the state's rising creeks and rivers.

United Fire Authority spokesman Matthew McFarland says that the coronavirus emergency isn't slowing the annual snow melt in Utah.

In addition to the fast moving current, McFarland says the coldness of the water can shut down the body quickly, making it impossible to get to safety without help.

He urges all Utahns to keep themselves, their children and their pets away from rivers, streams and creeks until later in the spring.

McFarland says the current isn't the only danger that Utahns face from fast-filling creeks and streams.
