St. George Regional Hospital Named Utah’s Best Hospital

Southern Utah residents have another reason to feel confident about the medical care available close to home. Intermountain Health St. George Regional Hospital has been named the No. 1 hospital in Utah in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-27 Best Hospitals rankings.

The recognition marks a major rise for the St. George facility, formerly known as Dixie Regional Medical Center. In the previous year’s rankings, St. George Regional was among Utah’s five leading hospitals, while University of Utah Health held the state’s top position. U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals nationwide, examining patient outcomes, preventable complications, patient experience and other measures of care. Only 505 facilities earned recognition as Best Regional Hospitals across 49 states and Washington, D.C.

Strong Marks

St. George Regional received strong marks in 18 adult procedures and conditions. Those areas included abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, spinal fusion, colon cancer surgery and ear, nose and throat procedures. The hospital also earned high patient satisfaction scores, with 92% of surveyed patients saying they would recommend it to others.

Hospital President Natalie Ashby credited the recognition to the physicians, caregivers and support employees who serve patients throughout the region.

“This recognition reflects the dedication to improving outcomes, advancing the patient experience, and helping people live the healthiest lives possible,” Ashby said.

Major Referral Center

The ranking carries added significance as Washington County and the surrounding region continue to grow. St. George Regional serves as a major referral center for Southern Utah, southeastern Nevada and northern Arizona, allowing many patients to receive advanced specialty and tertiary care without traveling to the Wasatch Front or larger out-of-state medical centers.
