The overhaul to the Utah tax code approved by state lawmakers last week in a special session has been signed into law.

Governor Gary Herbert announced that he signed the legislation.

The bill slashes overall taxes by 160-million dollars, decreasing income taxes while also increasing sales taxes and adding new taxes on certain services.

Several groups have opposed the legislation, and have already started an effort to overturn the bill through a citizen referendum.
