Early morning house fire in St. George

St. George Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Friday morning at 981 S. 550 E.

Upon arrival, crews found flames and smoke coming from the garage area of the home.

The fire call came in at approximately 6 am.

The home was occupied by an elderly couple and was extensively damaged due to fire and smoke.

A vehicle parked inside the garage was also damaged.

The elderly couple was able to escape unharmed. No one else was injured.

The exact cause of the fire is undetermined but at this stage in the investigation, it appears the fire started in the garage area, but the ignition source is still unknown.
