Governor ordering Salt Lake and Utah couties to retract directive
Governor Gary Herbert is ordering Salt Lake and Utah counties to retract directives prohibiting the gathering of more than ten people in one place.
The governor tweeted yesterday that the state was not consulted about the local orders and that the state Department of Health would require the counties to pull back on their directives.
The Salt Lake County Health Department says their order was issued to match federal and state recommendations about public gatherings.
A spokesman says that, by law, the county cannot have more lenient regulations than those issued by the state.
