The Charles Hall Ferry, which provides vehicle and pedestrian traffic services across Lake Powell between Bullfrog and Halls Crossing, will be out of service through Mid-May as the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) replaces the propulsion system, retrofits the vessel with new engines and upgrades the associated cooling system and electrical controls.

Previous ferry repairs have depended upon antiquated parts being shipped internationally or manufactured.

The retrofitting follows a $2-million dollar extension of loading ramps constructed under cooperation with the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to aid with lower water levels.

The combination of these projects is expected to improve reliability of the service for visitors in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and for travelers seeking the scenic drive on Utah State Route 276.

The ferry is owned by UDOT and is operated by Lake Powell Resorts
& Marinas.
