President Donald Trump has been all over the news since his inauguration and now a Southern Utah County wants to include him in the land.

Garfield County will be meeting next week to discuss and vote on renaming one of the roads that runs through Grand Staircase-Escalante, the Salt Lake Tribune said. During his last term, Trump lessened the land of the national monument and could take actions to do so again.

“It would just give us a way to tell the president that we really felt like he helped us,” said Commissioner Leland Pollock.

The two roads being considered are the Burr Trail Scenic Backway and John's Valley Road.

Since a staggering 79% of Garfield County residents voted for President Trump in Nov., it comes as a surprise that there has been active pushback on renaming the roads.

Both roads have historic backgrounds including being named after Utah pioneers.

Many of Bounder’s locals want to preserve the history of the Burr Trail Scenic Byway and keep it for posterity.

The proposed name would be Donald J. Trump Presidential Burr Trail Backway, the SLT said.

Over 1,200 signatures (four times the population of Boulder) to keep the historic roads name have been added since Tuesday. The petition “Preserve the Historic Name of the ‘Burr Trail Scenic Byway’” has garnered lots of online attention.

The three County commissioners will vote on Monday at 1:30 p.m. after a public hearing, the SLT said. The hearing will be held at the Garfield County Fair Building and will only allow in-person participation.
