DSU Holding a Candlelight Vigil

Dixie University plans to hold a candlelight vigil to remember the life of student Abraham Reinhardt.  Reinhardt died unexpectedly Friday at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.  The cause of his death is still under investigation.  The university will hold a candlelight vigil in his honor tonight at 8 p.m. in front of the clock tower on campus.

Man Rescued from Narrow Canyon

A man is safe after being rescued from a narrow canyon in Wayne County Sunday morning.  As a group of climbers rappelled down the Chamber Flats Canyon in the Robbers Roost area, one of them got stuck.  Around midnight 12 Safety Aero Bureau responders were flown down to where the man was and began dislodging him.  The rescue took more than three hours.

Six Caught in Avalanche

One woman was injured after a party of six was caught in an avalanche in Cardiff Fork.  The Utah Avalanche Center said the six people were caught and carried 100 yards by the avalanche near Big Cottonwood Canyon Sunday morning.  A woman was buried up to her shoulders, and a man was buried up to his neck. The woman suffered a knee injury.

Local Car Dealer Donates $20,000 to School District

Students with special needs were given self-propelled toy cars designed to help with muscle control challenges thanks to an auto dealer in St. George. Together Stephen Wade Toyota and Toyota corporate gave Washington County School district $20,000 to purchase the special cars for 58 students, which provides two pumper cars for each elementary school. "The Pumper Car® is a medical device disguised as a toy.

Utah Congressional Leaders Respond to Mueller Report

Republican Senator Mitt Romney called the finding that President Trump and his campaign did not collude with the Russian government good news and said it was time for the country to move forward.  Republican Congressman Chris Stewart said Democrats should apologize to the American people for false accusations of collusion during the investigation.  Democratic Congressman Ben McAdams called for the release of the complete Mueller report.

DSU Offers New Degree's

Dixie State University is announcing new degree options for those seeking bachelor's and master's degrees at its southern Utah campus.  The University's Board of Trustees approved the addition of a Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Sciences and the addition of a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to the institution's offerings. The Board of Trustees also approved a new certificate program of Computing Fundamentals and Design and a minor in Physics.

Utah Woman WW2 Pilot Honored

A Utah woman who flew airplanes as part of the Civil Air Patrol in World War Two is being honored with a Congressional Gold Medal.  Alice Lee Ludlow received the honor Saturday night during the CAP's annual Utah Wing Conference in Sandy.  Ludlow mainly helped to conduct search and rescue operations, helping to find lost hikers from the air.  The gold medal was authorized by Congress in 2014 for all CAP members who served during World War Two.
