Man struck by vehicle and killed

A 42 year old man died after being struck by a car in St. George. The accident occurred in the intersection of 100 South and 700 East Saturday night. At approximately 10pm, the 61 year old driver of a vehicle was heading west on 100 South toward a green light. 42 year old Jeremy Bartlett was crossing the road and was struck and killed by the vehicle.

U of U Hospital using tents to control coronavirus

The University of Utah Hospital will attempt to keep those infected with the coronavirus from spreading it to other patients.  Allison Flynn Gaffney with University of Utah Health says the hospital will use the tents to offer services to those who might have COVID-19 virus.

Lawmakers considering meeting changes in wake of coronavirus

Utah lawmakers are considering a change to their meeting rules to help reduce the chance of exposure to the coronavirus.  Senate Majority Whip Dan Hemmert is seeking a resolution to allow the House and Senate to hold meetings without all members being in the same place. 

Person diagnosed with coronavirus attended BYU basketball game

A person diagnosed with the novel coronavirus attended a packed BYU men's basketball game in Provo last month.  Aislynn Tolman-Hill of the Utah County Department of Health has some advice for those worried they may have been exposed.

Delta Air Lines waving some change fees

Delta Air Lines is waving all change fees for flights purchased in March as concerns over the coronavirus continue to weigh on travelers' minds.  The airline will also allow customers to make a one-time change for flights booked to China, South Korea and Italy through May 31st, as those are the countries hit hardest by the outbreak. 

Legislation prohibiting elective abortions moving ahead

Legislation that would prohibit any elective abortion in Utah is advancing to the full House after receiving a favorable recommendation in committee this morning.  Senate Bill 174 from Republican State Senator Dan McCay would go into effect if the U.S. Supreme Court reverses its stance on abortion.  The proposal would not apply in cases of rape or if the mother's health is at risk. 

Lawmakers resurrected free breakfast for kids in need

State lawmakers have resurrected and advanced a bill that would expand free breakfast in schools for kids in need.  House Bill 222 from Republican Representative Dan Johnson died last week, but got a second chance after comments during the Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee hearing drew public backlash. 

Utah House rejects bill on LGBTQ on transgender youth

The Utah House is rejecting a bill that would have commissioned a study on how hormone treatments affect transgender youth.  The bill was defeated in a 55-17 vote yesterday.  State Representative Brad Daw of Orem originally sought an outright ban on hormone treatments, but modified his bill after objections by LGBTQ groups. 

Discussion continuing on Native American mascots and symbols

Tribal leaders are asking state lawmakers to kill a House resolution on the use of Native American mascots and symbols by schools, sports teams and other bodies.  House Joint Resolution 10 sponsored by Representative Rex Shipp seeks to discourage the removal of such mascots and logos without some type of public hearing or process. 

Roy man arrested for arranging meeting with posing FBI agent

The FBI has arrested a man from Roy after they say he tried to sexually solicit an agent posing as a 13-year-old girl.  Court documents show that 26-year-old Thomas Poole started talking with the agent through social media back in October. 

IHC locations limiting visitors due to coronavirus concerns

Intermountain Healthcare has enacted much stricter policies for visitors to follow amid ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus.  From now on, patients at Intermountain hospitals can only have two visitors at once, and no visitors will be allowed to see anyone infected with COVID-19.
