The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is raising an objection to a proposed rule that would ban gay conversion therapy in Utah.

The church said in a statement that they fear the rule proposed by the Utah Psychologist Licensing Board is ambiguous in some areas and overreaches in others.

The statement also said that the new rule fails to protect individual religious beliefs while adding that the church opposes abusive professional practice or treatment.

Unless the measure is pulled by the licensing board, it should be adopted next week.
