The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will continue its opposition to a new statewide rule banning the practice of conversion therapy.

Church spokesman Marty Stephens said the new rule is different from a bill that was considered by state lawmakers during their last session

Stephens said LDS leaders are opposed to the use of conversion therapy and that Church therapists do not use it.

But the Church is opposed to the new rule from the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing because of its lack of protections for those who might consider such therapy.

The Church may take its objections to the Utah Legislature when it convenes in January.
