Randall wins battle with Hughes; new mayors on tap for Washington City, Hurricane

With the results unofficial, but unlikely to change, St. George will keep Michele Randall as mayor.

"I am so grateful and humbled by your vote of confidence in the job I am doing as mayor of this amazing city," Randall posted on social media Wednesday morning. "I will continue to work hard for each of you. Congratulations to Natalie Larsen & Michelle Tanner. Welcome to the city council. I’ve had the privilege of serving with some amazing people. Bryan Smethurst & Vardell Curtis were two of the best. They will be missed but they will always find a way to serve this community they love. We will continue to work hard during the time we have remaining until Natalie & Michelle are sworn in to office in January. Again, thank you so much for your support. I couldn’t do this without my awesome family! I was blessed with the best!"

Elsewhere, the incumbent mayor in Washington City, Kenny Nielson, will not gain a fourth term. Results show Neilson well behind challenger Kress Staheli.

In Hurricane, where Mayor John Bramall elected not to run for another term, Nanette Billings appears to have edged out Kevin Tervort.

Meanwhile, the St. George City Council race was extremely close, with the four candidates (vying for two positions) compiling votes adding up to between 7,700 and 9,000 in the city with a population of 85,000 residents.

Natalie Larsen garnered the most votes, with 8,987. Michelle Tanner looks like she will earn the other open seat with a vote count of 8,410. Challenger Greg Aldred has 8,011 votes, while incumbent Vardell Curtis will not likely return to the city council, managing just 7,784 votes.

Officials said not all votes have been counted, but that there aren't enough uncounted votes to make too much of a difference in the final result. The county/clerk auditor's website does offer the disclaimer that "These results are preliminary and are posted on the web as a convenience to the public."

Washington's City Council race, again with two spots up for grabs, will likely go to Brett Henderson (3,319 votes) and Marisa Thayne (2,693), although Kimberly Casperson still has a glimmer of hope with 2,637 votes. Roger Bundy is in fourth with 2,082 tallies.

Hurricane's City Council will add David Hirschi (2,644) and Kevin D. Thomas (1,940), beating out Douglas Heideman (1,879) and Brian Hawkins (1,821).
