As the Snow Canyon Half Marathon course bends and Snow Canyon’s famous red rocks come to view, a man dressed as a rootin tootin Cowboy will be attempting a Guinness World Record for the fastest time run over a half marathon distance dressed as a rancher. St. George’s Josh Conner will be festooned as a wrangler, and will be among nearly 2,300 participants in the Nov. 2 race.

“He’s going to wear chaps and everything,” said Aaron Metler, Recreation Supervisor - Races and Special Events for the City of St. George. “It will be great to watch!”

The Snow Canyon Half Marathon headlines a group of races of distances 5 kilometers, 1 mile and 200 meters, on one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous courses St. George has to offer. Rated as one of North America’s best half marathons by Runner’s World Magazine, the half marathon course is primarily downhill and USA Track & Field certified.

“There are race distances for the whole family,” Metler added. “Those who choose the half marathon course will be enthralled by breathtaking views of Snow Canyon State Park.”

The approximate number of participants registered are the most for the Snow Canyon Half since 2013. Among them, 30 states are represented, including several in Eastern time zone states. Nearly two-thirds of the runners are women and 80 percent of the runners are from outside Washington County.

Registration is open through Nov. 1. Runners can sign up here.

St. George Running Center, a long-time title sponsor, will give prizes to the top 50 male and top 50 female finishers. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a medal.
