A St. George man has died following complications from West Nile Virus.

86-year-old Emery Matsko died nine weeks after contracting the rarest form of the virus, known as West Nile neuroinvasive disease.

Health officials say it occurs when the virus spreads to the brain, causing damage and swelling.

Human cases of West Nile are rare, and 80-percent of those infected won't show any symptoms.
