State attorneys want a federal judge to dismiss the lawsuit the parents of Lauren McCluskey filed against the University of Utah.

In court filings, the Utah Attorney General's Office argue the U. did not violate McCluskey's constitutional rights in the handling of her complaints of her former boyfriend to police.

They also assert the claims from the parents are not about job duties of U. staff, but "moral obligations or missed opportunities, all viewed with the benefit of hindsight."

Matt and Jill McClusky sued the university for 56-million dollars, saying the U. discriminated against their daughter based on stereotypes about women who report sexual harassment and abuse.
