State lawmakers have resurrected and advanced a bill that would expand free breakfast in schools for kids in need.

House Bill 222 from Republican Representative Dan Johnson died last week, but got a second chance after comments during the Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee hearing drew public backlash.

Republican State Senator David Hinkins ignited a firestorm after he criticized the proposal, saying the state was acting as the parents for the children.

Today, Hinkins supported the plan and even proposed an amendment to lower the threshold for children to qualify for free breakfast.
