Fire in Cedar City sends elderly man, officer to the hospital

CEDAR CITY, Utah (KDXU) - An elderly man is in the hospital after a structure fire Monday morning.

According to Cedar City Police, officers responded to reports of a structure fire at 320 W 900 N and found out an elderly man was inside of the home.

An officer tried to go into the home, but had to retreat due to the amount of smoke.

Cedar City Fire had to deploy a fire suppression device to clear some of the smoke, that's when the officer went back into the house and pulled the man out, with help from other officials.

The elderly man was transported to Cedar City Hospital and his condition is unknown at this time. The officer who went into the home was also sent to the hospital but was released after being treated for smoke inhalation.

The incident is under investigation.
