Utah State University wanted to find out how people in Utah were feeling about their wellbeing. A statewide survey was conducted and the results showed what people in the state are worried about and what makes them feel like things are good.

Positive Perspectives on Life in Utah

For the most part, people who filled out the survey were pretty positive how their life was going. There were 11,559 who responded to questions about cost of living, recreation opportunities, mental health and other categories.

On a scale of 1 being poor to 5 being excellent, most of the cities averaged 3.6 to just over 4. Not all of the cities in Utah had enough respondents to be included. For Southern Utah cities, Ivins reported high wellbeing with a 4.45 average.

Home Ownership and Wellbeing: A Correlation

The whole survey had more home owners who responded and very few renters. This was especially true of the Ivins results. Springdale and Toquerville also reported high satisfaction scores.

Lower on the list was Cedar City which had an average wellbeing score of 3.8. The worries for this part of Iron County centered around cost of living. Still, they were on the positive side of things.

The biggest concerns for people of the state was over the water supply. Not too surprising when you consider the drought combined with increasing growth. Next the list of concerns was traffic followed by open space.

A possible correlation that isn't too surprising was that owning a home, having a degree, and being older reflected higher wellbeing scores. These were also areas where there was an over representation in the survey.
