Expect a headache for holiday travel

Yesterdays storm was a glimpse of winter with warnings and wet weather. This week millions of travelers can expect a headache for holiday travel. AAA says 55 million people will be traveling for Thanksgiving. Troopers also say the majority of drivers do not have emergency kits in their cars, and these kits can be very simple and inexpensive.

Parowan man shoots and kills neighbors dog

A Parowan man is behind bars for allegedly shooting and killing his neighbor's dog.  Bradley Niederhauser called police on Saturday, saying the dog was loose and he planned to shoot it if it came onto his property.  When deputies arrived, they found the animal dead near his property.  He said the dog had attacked him, but deputies say there's no evidence he was ever in danger.  Niederhauser now faces multiple charges, including aggravated animal cruelty.

Family of slain U of U student lawsuit update

The family of Lauren McCluskey is adding a new face to its legal team, and a new argument to its court filing in their 56-million-dollar lawsuit against the University of Utah.  Joined by former Utah Supreme Court Justice Christine Durham, Jill and Matt McCluskey responded to the university's motion to have their case thrown out.

Drivers need to plan now for holiday weather and travel

The Utah Department of Transportation says drivers need to make plans now to avoid the double whammy of heavy Thanksgiving travel combined with winter weather conditions.  UDOT is urging drivers to take into account that the heaviest expected travel on Interstate 15 will be from 2 to 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Chinese government thanking local Utah responders

The Chinese government is thanking local authorities for their help following September's deadly bus crash near Bryce Canyon National Park.  The Chinese Embassy Official Minister held a reception in Salt Lake City over the weekend to formally thank the State of Utah and local agencies that responded to the crash.

Carbon tax initiative won't make 2020 ballot

Backers of a ballot initiative for a carbon tax in Utah say they will likely fall short of getting the referendum on the 2020 ballot.  In an email sent to supporters, organizers for the group Clean the Darn Air acknowledge long odds to collect the needed signatures.

Record Buck poached in Millard County

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officers are investigating the illegal killing and waste of a mature 6×7 buck deer. The deer was found east of Holden, in the Maple Hollow area of Millard County. DWR officials said the animal was killed a high-powered rifle and then left to waste just off the side of the road.

Two UHP Troopers hit on Monday

Utah Highway Patrol said two troopers were hit while investigating two separate crashes Monday. One of those troopers was hit twice in the same spot.
