Man being extradited back to Utah for 37 year old murder

A man arrested in Nebraska is awaiting extradition to Utah after DNA evidence linked him to a Salt Lake City murder case from 37 years ago. Salt Lake City Police Sergeant Keith Horrocks says 55-year-old Bryan Reed admitted to beating 72-year-old Wilhelmina Reid to death in her apartment in 1982.

Washington County continues its growth rate

Washington County continues to grow.  A new report from the University of Utah found that the county's population has risen over 30-percent in the last decade.  That works out to a little more than 42-thousand new arrivals, making it the county with the fastest growth rate in the state.

UHP warning drivers about ice falling from semi-trucks

The Utah Highway Patrol is warning drivers of the potential for crashes and injuries due to heavy ice falling from semi-trucks and other vehicles.  The UHP said that was the case Monday on State Route 36 near Stockton, where a sheet of ice came off the top of a semi and landed on a vehicle going the other way.  The driver was not badly injured but his vehicle suffered heavy damage.

BYU Geologists investigating increased dust conditions

Geologists at Brigham Young University are putting the blame for increased dust in northern Utah on a drier, drought-ridden climate.  In a new study, researchers concluded that 90-percent of the dust blown in the region comes off land that came from shrinking bodies of water such as the Great Salt Lake and Sevier Lake.

Utah County authorities searching for escaped inmate

Authorities in Utah County are searching for an escaped inmate.  Sheriff's deputies say 49-year-old Boyd Anderson was on the county's GPS monitoring program but removed his ankle monitor.

A member of the Utah State Board of Education has stepped down from her seat.  District Three Representative Linda Hansen has moved outside her precinct boundaries, which cover West Valley City and the central western part of the state.

Body found in Garfield County identified

A body found in Garfield County over the weekend is being identified by the state medical examiner's office.  The Garfield County Sheriff's office announced yesterday that Stephen St. John had been identified as the man who was found dead Saturday near Escalante.

Helicopter pilot escapes injury

A pilot is bruised but otherwise okay after surviving a helicopter crash in Bluffdale yesterday. The pilot was forced to make a crash landing in a field after he lost his tail rotor and started spinning out of control.

Police officer needs a new kidney

The Perry City Police Department is reaching out to the public to help an officer find a new kidney.  On Facebook, the department says Officer Jason Harris was diagnosed in August with an autoimmune disease that has caused his kidneys to fail.
