Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney says he is trying to remain faithful to the GOP principles he grew up with, even as his party goes in a different direction.

Romney said he is not certain of the future course of the party during a webcast presented by the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Tuesday.

The Senator said he continues to work on issues the GOP once stood for, such as reducing the national debt and supporting democracy rather than authoritarian leaders.

He added that the GOP under President Trump seems more comfortable with dictators and anti-democratic leaders than ever before.
