The University of Utah has appointed its first-ever chief safety officer.

Marlon Lynch will assume the new rule at the U. on February 1st and will be tasked with coordinating and overseeing all university safety programs, including the campus police department, emergency preparedness efforts and cyber-security.

The new position was a recommendation from the Presidential Task Force on Campus Safety, which was formed after the murder of Lauren McCluskey last year.
