A former employee of the investment branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has filed a whistleblower complaint with the IRS.

The Washington Post reports that David A. Nielsen has told the agency that Ensign Peak Advisors is holding 100-billion-dollars in excess donations by church members that it has not paid taxes on.

The IRS will have to decide if Ensign Peak is operating within the rule for non-profit organizations by holding on to the money rather than using it for charitable or other purposes.

The Church would not address the IRS complaint specifically, but issued a statement yesterday saying all its investments ultimately go back into supporting its mission.
